Solid or engineered? Honest advice for coastal homes
- Both are real wood on the surface — the difference is underneath, and in Florida it matters:
- Engineered wood has a real hardwood top layer over a stable core, making it far more resistant to humidity swings — and it can be installed over the concrete slabs most Florida homes are built on. For beach-area homes and condos, it’s usually the smarter choice.
- Solid hardwood is the classic: thicker, refinishable for generations, and the gold standard for resale value. In climate-controlled Sarasota homes with proper acclimation, it performs beautifully.
- We install both — and we’ll tell you straight which one suits your home, even if it’s the cheaper option.
